James McAvoy’s (remember our favourite actor from Shameless, gone onto pastures new) well, Professor X might be joining X-Men: The New Mutants.

Though producer Simon Kinberg had teased last year that the New Mutants movie by Josh Boone would include Professor X. But would McAvoy play the part again? Anya Taylor-Joy thinks so. Taylor-Joy hasn’t officially been cast but is believed to be coming onboard The New Mutants and also happens to be McAvoy’s co-star in Split.

Nobody was really certain that McAvoy would return for the upcoming X-Men film. Now, in an interview with Coming Soon, actress Ana Taylor-Joy (McAvoy’s partner in the M. Night Shymalan’s Split) reveals that the younger Professor X just might be in New Mutants already.

Confirming that she’d already seen the Demon Bear animatic in the upcoming New Mutants, Taylor-Joy says that she’d love to be part of the new X-Men film.

“I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?” the actress later on responds when asked about whether she had hoped that being in the film would reunite her with her co-star in Split.

Given Taylor-Joy’s response, it looks like McAvoy’s return to New Mutants might be pretty much a done deal. Sources from the publication also say that the new feature film will be far different from the older X-Men installments, indicating that New Mutants is going to be more of a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” kind of horror. From what it sounds like, we might get something like the Stranger Things on the big screen.

James McAvoy told Fandango he’d be open to returning. “If they offer me a really good part, I’m in!” McAvoy exclaimed. “I love playing Charles, and I’ve always had pretty interesting things to do as Charles. So, if that continues, then, yeah, of course I’d love to take part.”

New Mutants is expected to release sometime in Spring 2018.
