Just like the video game in 2013, the Tomb Raider franchise is getting a reboot as well with Alicia Vikander playing adventurer Lara Croft. We’ve only been getting glimpses at the film so far, but now we have an official poster and a teaser for the full trailer which is set arrive tomorrow.
The movie also comes with its own Tomb Raider logo, and though the teaser has Lara holding her signature bow and arrow from the game, the poster has her wielding her climbing axe. Though the axe could primarily be used for getting up walls, Lara has also been able to use it for quick and lethal melee attacks.
It’s said that this rebooted movie will be based on the 2013 video game, but we don’t know if it will be adapting the Kimiko story or simply giving Lara a whole new adventure in the same timeline. Personally, I would prefer something entirely new this time around.
Knowing how video game movies go, a 2-hour film usually isn’t enough to cover the experience that a video game delivers. What’s more, a love for the original games from the filmmakers doesn’t necessarily amount to a good movie either. Duncan Jones was a huge fan of Warcraft, but his movie bombed with the critics.
For now, things are still looking good for the Tomb Raider film. Hopefully it breaks the curse of video game movies in Hollywood.
Tomb Raider is set to hit theaters on March 16, 2018.
