The start of the Post Credit scenes in the Marvel Universe!

Everyone can agree that even Marvel has had its own misses when it came to some of its movies, no matter how good most of them are now. But if there was one thing that we can expect from Marvel to keep delivering every single time, it would be the presence of post-credits scenes.

From the very start in Iron Man, when Nick Fury appeared to Tony Stark to talk to him about the “Avenger Initiative,” Marvel had already featured these post-credits scenes. So, if you were one of those who left the cinemas pretty early and didn’t catch that during the first run, then, damn you! Just kidding! Or are we?

According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, the post-credits actually started as a sort of reward for people who finished going through the credits.

“As a film nerd, I never wanted it to end. So I would always sit through all the credits and you’re about two-thirds of the way through and it’s like oh should I go? Maybe there’ll be something on this movie. And there never was. So when I started making movies, I’d be like that’d be fun to do… We thought we’d put it at the very end of the credits for people who like me when I was a kid could be rewarded for staying and if you stayed that long, you probably knew who Nick Fury was. And what that meant.”

Feige also shared that the creation of post-credits scenes varied. They would have certain tags during development, but sometimes, it would even come as late as post-production. For instance, he shared that the second Iron Man movie’s after-credits scene happened after he had read Thor’s drafts.

One other project, The Avengers, came a little too late, though looking back, that little silent shawarma scene was pretty damn funny.

By featuring five post-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 alone. I wonder if this is the start of a new way to present these little surprises—and if we should look forward to a similar one in succeeding Marvel films.
