The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailer teases love, laughs and cuteness in: baby Groot

The galaxy is not going to save it frigging self… lucky for us, it doesn’t have to. The Guardians are back and are packing a punch for the stars.

Thanks, MARVEL. Above, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 teaser poster shows the gang looking like a 70s Punk band – including the dodgy Yondu Udonda (Michael Rooker)and Drax, Gamora, Star-Lord – looking like a 70s punk band, dropped on Thursday too.

(Were you guys watching the main segment in the new clip) it  belonged to Drax the Destroyer (David Bautista, and who stole the show in the first movie – hands down) however, who affectionately tells a lovelorn Starlord (Chris Pratt) “You just need to find a woman who is pathetic, like you. Do you need a hug?” (Com on, you can not get funnier writing than that anywhere!)

And while you may be thinking the minute and a half trailer doesn’t show much – apart from an adorable blossoming bromance – here are some things you might have missed:

Baby Groot is here!

You heard right. After Vin Diesel’s tree creature character got into some trouble in the original film, he came back as a re-planted baby.

 How cute…

The soundtrack is back too

One of Guardians‘ greatest assets was its classic rock soundtrack which was delivered to audiences via Starlord’s mixtape (we all remember a mixtape? Don’t we? Guys! Guys!). So it’s little surprise one of the anthems from the first film, Hooked on a Feeling was brought back to welcome our heroes back to our screens.

Trouble in Paradise

The only plot point this trailer did give us is that Starlord’s in a bit of romantic trouble with Gamora (Saldana).

Drax tells him: “There are two types of people in the universe. Those who dance and those who do not”.

To which Starlord responds: “I am a dancer; Gamora is not.”

So clearly there’s trouble between the pair, but on the plus side, we get Drax and Starlord’s budding romance and also, this pearl of wisdom: “You just need to find a woman who is pathetic, like you.” (I just had to add it in there again, guys. Pure magic).

The first movie, which came out in 2014 and was directed by James Gunn (Super, Dawn of the Dead), made more than NZ$1 billion worldwide.

The original ended with Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) sacrificing himself, and then being reborn as a baby sapling. There’s a glimpse of baby Groot in the trailer too.

Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Glenn Close are all also returning for the follow-up to the hit Marvel original, with the added company of Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone (and I don’t mean another Tango & Cash movie, either, but it would be good if we did, though).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 hits theatres on May 5, 2017.
