The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, first set photos…

We haven’t heard much about The Jim Henson Company’s new series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance since it was first announced over a while back, but Culturedemandsgeeks have been tracking avenues and dark alley’s to no avail, leading us to these three sneak photos of the highly anticipated return.

The Dark Crystal first entered the pop-culture fray as a fantastical theatrical offering during the 1982 Christmas season. Directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, featuring then-groundbreaking animatronics and imaginative creatures from Henson’s Creature Shop. Not a box-office smash on its first outing but gaining a fandom over time.

Netflix has given a 10-episode series order for The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, which will serve as a prequel, set, as they put it, “many years” before the events of the original 1982 movie, and we’ve now got some first look pics to show you! Just click on the main image up there to flick through them.

Along with the three (above) pictures, the official voice cast has now been unveiled, and it’s absolutely huge with unbelievable talent:

The three main heroes will be Gelflings Rian (Taron Egerton), Brea (Anya Taylor Joy) and Deet – (Nathalie Emmanuel). Other Gelfling voices include Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander.

The Skeksis & Mystics are Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg!

Netflix has also revealed that Aughra will be returning, and will be voiced by Donna Kimball (The Happytime Murders).

A release date for the series was originally rumored for 2018, but there’s so much work to do with all the practical effects and puppets, it’ll now be into 2019 before this triumphant feature arrives.
