Shailene Woodley and Theo James in Allegiant (2016)
Oh no, Allegiant, the third film in the Divergent series starring Shailene Woodley, was supposed to have a second part, but since the film bombed at the box office, producers considered its potential as a made for TV film, or a pilot to introduce a new show.
Unfortunately, Woodley has officially confirmed she’s not going to be a part of that.
According to Vanity Fair, Woodley was asked on the red carpet for Big Little Lies on Tuesday if she’d be involved in the final Divergent film. “No,” she said, “I’m not going to be on the television show.”
Last September, Woodley said, “I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”
It is a shame really that the film bombed, maybe, trying to hard to follow in the footsteps of The Hunger Games and splitting into two films, when all we needed was just one complete film. Unfortunately, the hype around The Divergent series never grew to the hype of The Hunger Games series and that’s why we have ended up with a choppy, turbulent ending instead of a finished gem.
