Resident Evil TV series…

Here we are, on the eve of the release of the long-anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake and it appears that the entire world if collectively agreeing: Resident Evil is good again.

Netflix is “developing a scripted series based on the hit action-horror franchise” with Constantin Film — the outfit behind the long-running movie franchise — leading the charge. The Resident Evil film franchise debuted in 2002 and, over the course of six films, created a surprisingly durable action-horror property.

The last installment was 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, leaving Constantin open to the possibility of a reboot.

At one point, James Wan — of Saw and Aquaman fame — was attached to produce the reboot, though Wan later said, “That has been dropped.” Just last month, 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts was reportedly hired to write and direct the reboot effort.

If the Netflix series is confirmed, Resident Evil would not be Netflix’s first video game adaptation. For the kids, there’s Skylanders Academy, which initially debuted in 2016; on the mature animation front, Castlevania has been renewed for its third season; and on the live-action side, The Witcher series is already sharing pictures of star Henry Cavill in costume.
