Hearty Game Of Thrones fans might be disappointed that the show won’t be back on screens until next year, but they should rejoice and brace themselves for movie-length episodes.
The hit HBO/Sky Atlantic fantasy series has just six episodes left to air – with the creative team hard at work putting those episodes together right now in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Jon Snow himself, Kit Karington, says each of the final episodes will have beefy running times that will run far longer than the usual 60 minutes on the show.
The 31-year-old actor – who has starred on the show since it began in 2011 – teased the details to The Sun.
“We know we have six episodes – we are not sure whether they will run for 70 minutes or even 90 minutes,” the actor explained. “There is so much work still to do. We haven’t put together a full episode yet as there is more filming. The length will be a network decision. But we are busy,” he added.
The show traditionally airs in Spring, however the final season is not expected before 2019 – meaning there will be no new episodes in 2018.
The reason behind the delay is that there will be so much CGI included in the dramatic episodes – which features fire breathing dragons and armies of frozen zombies.

Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave are not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. The writers are perfectionists. They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger — big battle scenes, big special effects. And the fans will welcome the high level of quality that they will bring to the scripts, through to the very final episode.
