What makes Star Wars more special is the franchises involvement of actors, and former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is returning to the cosmos!

The actor, most recently known for his role as Prince Philip in The Crown, has been cast in an undisclosed but “key” role in Star Wars Episode IX.

Knowing how well Star Wars loves to cast tall, posh-sounding British men as officers of the First Order, it’s entirely possible that he’ll join Domnhall Gleeson’s General Hux on the dark side of the galactic struggle — but there’s something to be said for playing against type.

Culturedemandsgeeks wondering what Smith’s role will be? A Resistance member, perhaps channeling The Doctor’s rebellious spirit! Or, you know, he’s not on either side and will just be a cool space guy who’s doing his own thing.
