A list of famous and familiar faces to play the new Doctor?
The universe felt a shift in the powers with the death of the War Doctor John Hurt and now comes news that Peter Capaldi will be leaving the confines of the mighty Tardis after the current season and 2017 Christmas special.
Culturedemandsgeeks has compiled a – hopeful – list of potential Doctor’s. So strap in, and take a gander at our list below:
1: Chris O’Dowd – We had a brilliant Scotsman in David Tennant so why not an Irishman? In everything from Bridesmaids to The Sapphires, the 37-year old has proved he has n easy charisma and comedic-timing.
2: Hugh Laurie – He’s been talked about many times before, but now is the time for the darling Brit to take on this most beloved character? The 57-year old has a glowing track record over the past years of playing brilliant characters. Bertie Wooster, Gregory House and Richard Roper suggests he could portray the Doctor perfectly.
3: Hayley Atwell – from the cancelling of the fantastic Agent Carter, could Miss Atwell be in line to play the first female Doctor? The 24-year old proved on the criminally short-lived TV show that she could seamlessly mix action, comedic beats and drama.
4: James Nesbitt – Has been a darling on TV and film for as long as I can remember. So why not give the reigns to the Irishman to play more of a playboy version of the Doctor? He can demonstrate an ability to tackle a variety of roles – from The Missing and Monroe to comedy romance shows like Cold Feet, and monster, blockbuster films like The Hobbit trilogy.
5: Olivia Coleman – One of the most respected British actresses to grace our screens in the last ten years or so. The 43-year old Olivia has impressed with comedy roles (The Peep Show) and high drama shows (Broadchurch, The Night Manager). Plus, she had already appeared in a Doctor Who episode – 2010s episode The Eleventh Hour.
6: Richard Ayoade – A wild card choice, but a great pick in our eyes. Anyone who has watched The Gadget Man and Travel Man shows knows that the 39-year old actor, comedic star, writer and director has just the right amount of eccentricity and style to play the new Doctor.
7: Or will the new Doctor be a completely unknown quantity?
