NICOLE KIDMAN IS AQUAMAN’S MUM?

Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman will be playing Aquaman’s mum in the forthcoming DCEU film. Here’s why she signed up…

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, however, Kidman confirmed that she’ll definitely be hopping aboard the DCEU standalone film when it starts production next month, playing Aquaman’s mum, Princess Alanna.

“The reason why I love [Aquaman] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna,” she told the magazine. “As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”

She’s not wrong. The actress has been a one-woman drama juggernaut of late, starring alondside Reese Witherspoon in HBO’s smash hit miniseries Big Little Lies, and grabbing another Oscar nomination for her turn in last year’s Lion. She’s also got Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled and Yorgos Lanthimos’ intriguing follow-up to The Lobster – The Killing Of A Sacred Deer – in post-production right now.

At any rate, Kidman and the rest of the cast, which includes Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones), Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Amber Heard (Drive Angry) and Willem Dafoe (Platoon) are due to head out to a few different locations for the shoot next month, with Queensland, Australia, and Sicily, Italy among them. So for the most part, she won’t be far from home.
