Nathan Fillion is Nathan Drake: A fan-made 14 minute Uncharted film…

By Culturedemandsgeeks

For years Culturedemandsgeeks have been fans of the Uncharted games, and just as worldwide fans have been dream-casting “Firefly’s” Nathan Fillion as “Uncharted’s” Nathan Drake, even Nathan Fillion has been dream-casting himself as “Unchatred’s” Nathan Drake.

Sadly the movie adaptation of the “Indiana Jones” meets “Tomb Raider” video game has been stuck in development purgatory for years. So Fillion went and made his own movie. When the Naughty Dog video game dropped back in 2007, the physical similarities between Fillion and Drake were pretty apparent. Eventually “Spider-Man’s” Avi Arad, Chares Roven and Alex Gartner would begin to pursue a big screen translation penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

Shortly after the movie news made it into the public sphere, Fillion revealed his desires to play Drake on Twitter.

This proclamation started a whisper campaign that echoed in the halls of Comic-Con for years. But it was all for naught, as it’s been over a decade, and there’s still no “Uncharted” film.

So Fillion and friends decided to take measures into their own hands.

Director Allan Ungar (Gridlocked, the upcoming Decoy movie) and actor Fillion worked together to make the above, 14 minute fan film. which also stars Avatar’s Stephen Lang as Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Mircea Monroe (Episodes) as Elena Fisher, and Geno Segers (Banshee) as the villain — follows Drake on a quest to find the lost treasure of the Flor de la Mar.

Fillion — who we are told underwent an extensive training regimen to play Drake and did many of his own stunts — was matter of fact about why he and Ungar made their short.

“Here’s this incredible property, it’s out there, and no one has done anything with it yet. Brilliant characters, gripping stories, tailor made for me — add in Allan’s passion for Uncharted, and talent — why wouldn’t we?,” Fillion said in a statement.

Ungar added: “I’ve been a huge fan of this franchise since it started back in 2007. I was still in school and remember thinking that it was going to change both the gaming landscape and the way we experience immersive storytelling. While the set pieces were always incredibly fun and inventive, it was the importance of character and story that really hooked me. You were able to put yourself in the shoes of someone that embodied everything we love about heroes, including their flaws. Over the years I always felt that if it was ever adapted into a film or series, there was only one guy out there that could play the part. Turns out I wasn’t the only one.”

Similar to Adi Shankar’s “bootleg” Power Rangers short from 2015, the flick has absolutely no ties to the official video game. But the timing of the release of this “Uncharted” production so close to comic-con, does make us wonder if Fillion really has given up the ghost on still getting cast as Drake.
