Marvel’s The Defenders in danger in clip?

Marvel’s The Defenders: Sigourney Weaver makes a chilling request in premiere clip… the new trailer for The Defenders seriously jammed online communities, and the goddamn media couldn’t keep up. However, it seems like Netflix are eager to keep the hype burning white hot, as they’ve now released a new clip from the upcoming series.

With the recently released first trailer for Marvel and Netflix’s The Defenders has been met with a wave of fan chatter and speculation. Along with showing the team of four come together and kick ass, among the footage are several recurring characters from the previous four series, confirmation of Elektra’s return, and, most intriguingly, some short snippets of Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra, the series’ main antagonist.

Since the announcement of her involvement at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel has been keeping the details Weaver’s role under very strict lock and key. Aside from what’s seen here, only one other official image has been released of her in a skyscraper overlooking the New York skyline, with another couple of set photos that all confirm little else other than she’s rich, powerful and we’ll be seeing her ride around in a limo.

Now, it seems that Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra has a plan in mind, and Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) isn’t going to stand in the way.

When the two The Defenders antagonists meet in Central Park, Gao offers an update on their mysterious mission, saying that at this rate, they’ll accomplish what they set out to do in roughly seven months. Alexandra isn’t pleased, however: She tells Gao she needs them (“them” likely means the Hand) to move up their timetable, and when Gao bristles, Alexandra doesn’t bat an eyelash. Gao says a faster pace will draw attention to their cause, and Alexandra responds, “I’m aware.” She then stands up to leave, leaving Gao reeling. “Finish feeding the birds, will you?” Hey, at least Alexandra cares for the health of New York City’s animal dwellers.

The Defenders hits Netflix on Aug. 18.
