We never really doubted that Netflix was going to renew Marvel’s Jessica Jones following its critically acclaimed and buzzy first season.
Here’s everything we know so far about Jessica Jones season two – from cast to potential storylines to Jessica’s relationship status.

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos first hinted back in early 2016 that Marvel’s bevy of upcoming shows would make scheduling a challenge for Jessica Jones.
“The complex one is The Defenders – the schedule for that show will determine season two and season three outputs for the other shows,” Sarandos expanded.
New episodes of Jessica Jones began shooting in 2017, and the new season will finally air on March 8, 2018. (It’s being helmed, incidentally, by all-female directors.)
Jessica Jones season 2 cast and characters: Who’ll be back?

Most, though not all, of the first year’s main cast are expected to be back for season two. We can expect to see the following…
– Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones (obvs)
– Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker
– Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse
– Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth
Oscar nominee Janet McTeer will also join the cast, and “who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life” – though details are scant as to the character’s identity.

Leah Gibson (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) will also feature as a series regular – her character is so far being billed as ‘Ingrid’, a 30-something woman with dark hair and “an edge”. The character is said to have lived on the streets, has been educated as a nurse, and is attracted to men and women.
That breakdown provoked fan speculation that ‘Ingrid’ is actually Marvel Comics villain Typhoid Mary, an extremely edgy superhuman with both psychic and fire-based powers. (Though that’s yet to be officially confirmed).

It’s as yet unclear if Mike Colter will reprise his role of Luke Cage in new Jessica Jones, given that he is also filming right now.
No word yet on Wil Traval as Will Simpson / Nuke either – and of course, there’s the question of David Tennant’s involvement…

J.R. Ramirez has been cast in the Netflix superhero series as the new superintendent of Jessica’s apartment building, who is keen to keep his young son away from the vigilante’s unwieldy powers.
The series’ creator Melissa Rosenberg announced the major casting: “J.R. is an incredible addition to our cast, bringing complex and subtle emotion and humour. He exudes warmth, edge and intelligence, and blends perfectly with our tone.”
Jessica Jones season 2 cast and characters: Kilgrave may not be dead?

Please fret, we will see the return of David Tennant’s villain Kilgrave, despite the fact, y’know, she snapped his neck in the finale of season 1.
“He’s such a part of her construction and her dilemma,” Melissa Rosenberg said. “I think just having him come back and be that mirror again is really important.”
Aside from confirming he still has a penchant for purple, Marvel is understandably keeping tight-lipped about exactly how he’ll fit into the storyline.
Given that Kilgrave’s powers had been enhanced shortly before his death, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he could have survived having his neck broken. The entire series began with Jessica believing Kilgrave was dead, after all.
Even if Kilgrave himself doesn’t live on, there’s not a chance he hasn’t left a contingency plan behind.
However, given that he mind-controlled Jessica for a sizeable chunk of time, we could see him either appearing in flashbacks!
Jessica Jones season 2 plot and spoilers: Her backstory will be front and centre

“New York City private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave.
“Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why.”
Rosenberg had previously hinted that future episodes would delve into Jessica’s past. “I just want to continue with Jessica’s character – she’s very damaged, and the damage goes beyond Kilgrave, so there’s a lot to mine from in her backstory and her present day situation.”

One of season one’s biggest dangling threads was the mysterious company, IGH, which paid for Jessica’s medical treatment after the car accident that killed her family. It’s strongly implied that IGH might also be responsible for her superpowers, and that they employed Dr Kozlov – the guy administering those military drugs that turned Simpson into a maniac.
Jessica’s not getting sober any time soon…
Given how much else was going on in season one, the fact that Jessica is basically a functioning alcoholic was played mostly for dark laughs. If season two will be focusing more on her character, is there any scope to explore that in more depth?
Season two will be more loosely inspired by the comics…
The Marvel Cinematic (and TV) Universe has now veered away from the timeline of Brian Michael Bendis’s Alias comics significantly enough that fans shouldn’t hold their breath for much faithful adaptation.
