If you are in or travelling around New Zealand, then, Bestselling Scottish crime author Ian Rankin is coming to Christchurch in May.

The author of the popular Inspector Rebus books will appear in Christchurch as part of the Word Christchurch autumn season.

The events run from May 14 to 17 and will also feature British historian A N Wilson, science writer James Gleick talking about time travel, Booker Prize winning author Anne Enright, crime writer Stella Duffy and the return of Canadian storyteller Ivan Coyote, who was the hit of last year’s Word festival.

The Word Christchurch festival is held every other year, but aims to hold events all year round.

“When we became Word Christchurch part of our mission was to present year-round events in Christchurch, including our off year.”

The festival will also be hosting 10 events at the Christchurch Arts Festival in August.

Rankin has written 21 books about Edinburgh detective Inspector Rebus, with many of them adapted for television. He will be interviewed by Christchurch coroner Marcus Elliott in the Charles Luney Auditorium at St Margaret’s College. All the other autumn events will be held at The Piano on Armagh St.
