A remake of Flight Of The Navigator, the 1986 sci-fi movie about a 12 year old boy who disappears for eight years and suddenly returns, has been on the Hollywood cards for some time.
Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow has hinted that his proposed remake of Flight of the Navigator could be in 3D. The filmmaker, who is working on the Disney project with his Safety writer Derek Connolly, told Digital Spy that the sci-fi project is unlikely to be the next movie he directs.
But now comes the news that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp appears to be involved. Over the last few months, Blomkamp has been taken the covers off his Oats Studios, that’s been showcasing a series of impressive short movies. But now, on his Twitter account, he’s teased that a feature is on the way too. And, well, see for yourself…
Asked if he will remain faithful to the 1986 original, Trevorrow replied: “There’s a question in it which I always thought was compelling. What if suddenly you woke up and your world was gone and your parents were old?

“There’s something so scary about that for a kid. We know what the themes are and what characters we’re going to be working with, but beyond that it’s going to take a little while.”
Trevorrow also voiced his enthusiasm for the 3D and CGI technology that wasn’t available for Randal Kleiser’s film, which sees a 12-year-old boy travel eight years into the future on an alien ship.
