Altered Carbon is heading to Netflix tomorrow. It’s a science fiction tale set in a dystopian world where infinite life is possible – but not always desired.

Here’s all we know about Netflix’s action packed sci-fi series so far.

What is Altered Carbon about?

Altered Carbon is based on the bestselling cyber-punk novel of the same name, written by British novelist Richard K. Morgan and first published in 2002.

Set more than 300 years into the future, people are now able to live potentially forever by transferring their memories from one ‘sleeve’ (body) to another. However, it is expensive to do so, making it impossible for the poor. Catholics choose not to, claiming it is against their religious principles. This makes them murder and crime targets, as they are not able to return in new bodies to testify against their attackers.

Takeshi Kovacs was an elite super-soldier and is brought back to life (via his frozen ‘sleeve’) 250 years after he was shot dead by government enforcers. He is brought back by wealthy Laurens Bancroft (who is now a ‘sleeve’) because he wants his help to solve his own murder.

Altered Carbon boasts some big name television actors, including:

Joel Kinnaman – Takeshi Kovacs’ Sleeve

Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman stars in Altered Carbon as the brought-back-to-life Takeshi Kovacs. He starred in Swedish film Easy Money and also in AMC’s The Killing as detective Stephen Holder.

Will Yun Lee – The original Takeshi Kovacs

Will Yun Lee plays the original pre-sleeve Takeshi Kovacs. An American actor and martial artist, you may recognise him as Danny Woo from the supernatural drama Witchblade and as Jae Kim in the series Bionic Woman.

James Purefoy – Laurens Bancroft’s Sleeve

James Purefoy plays Lauren Bancroft, the wealthy man who brings Takeshi back to life. James’s past roles include playing Hap Collins in the AMC series Hap and Leonard, King George VI in 2017’s movie Churchill and Joe Carroll in series The Following.

Kristin Lehman – Miriam Bancroft

Kristin Lehman plays Miram Bancroft, the wife of Laurens Bancroft (played by Purefoy). While projecting the image of a happy trophy wife, she is determined to live at least another thousand years – by any means possible. Kristin’s past stand-out roles include The Killing as Gwen Eaton, Agent Angie Flynn in the TV series Motive and as Marilyn McGrath-Dufresne in TV series Ghost Wars.
