The very first trailer for Blade Runner 2049 has arrived, folks, and Warner Bros Pictures has also revealed its official synopsis.
“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
Fans of the original film will quickly pick up on certain familiar elements: the steamy streets of L.A., the fashionable trench coat of Ryan Gosling‘s K, and the iconic pistol of Harrison Ford‘s Deckard. (Bonus points for recognizing the significance of the piano and the dog, methinks.)
Interesting, hey! Well, if Deckard is still alive 30 years later, that rules out the possible “he’s actually a replicant” theory. Unless he’s a longer-lived model than Roy Batty and company. And there’s no sign of his definitely-a-replicant paramour Rachael.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, and Harrison Ford, Blade Runner 2 will be released in cinemas on October 6, 2017.
