Han Solo: Miller And Lord Were Fired For Clashing With Kathleen Kennedy…

After the shocking NEWS came out that directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller have left the Han Solo project, a lot of people were immediately asking questions as to what exactly happened. But their chance to put their stamp on a galaxy far, far away collapsed on Tuesday with the stunning announcement that the pair would be departing the still untitled Han Solo spin-off movie in the midst of production
The official statement from Lucasfilm and the directors themselves pointed at “creative differences,” but Variety seems to have gotten more details on the matter and as it turns out, the two of them were fired.
The unnamed source says:
“It was a culture clash from day one… She didn’t even like the way they folded their socks.” The duo had apparently wanted to do the movie “their” way but was not given enough creative freedom by Kennedy who was overseeing the production.
Miller and Lord were also said to have clashed with Lawrence Kasdan who found the directors’ decisions a bit questionable. The directors were stunned to find that they were not being granted freedom to run the production in the manner that they were accustomed to. They balked at Kennedy’s tight control on the set.
The source continues:
“Kathy, her team and Larry Kasdan have been doing it their way for a very long time. They know how the cheese is made and that’s how they want it made… It became a very polarizing set.”
Lucasfilm did state that they will be announcing a new director soon, but we don’t know exactly how soon. My best bet is probably Rogue One director Gareth Edwards who did some stunning work with his anthology film. He has also stated that he was a bit ‘jealous’ that we wasn’t working on the project. Perhaps he’s getting his wish?
When it came to it, the duo (Miller and Lord) had a solid track run when it comes to their movies, and Culturedemandsgeeks wished that Kennedy and the rest of the big-wigs had faith in the duo’s creativity. Some criticisms of The Force Awakens have even said that the movie was “playing it too safe.”
With the production set to end in a few weeks, and the loss of (two great) directors is said to add a few more weeks of shooting this summer.
Hopefully this doesn’t turn out bad, but who, really knows? A blessing in disguise! Or complete and utter meltdown on creative thinking?
Han Solo is still scheduled to come out on May 25, 2018.
