Need more seasons of The Big Bang Theory in your life?
Well, you’re in luck because the beloved comedy series has just been picked up for two—count ’em, two—more years!
CBS and Warner Bros. Television have agreed a two-season renewal deal for The Big Bang Theory, taking the show through to its twelfth season Until now, The Big Bang Theory was not contracted past its current tenth season, though as the #1 scripted series in viewers and key demos a renewal deal was expected.
The forty-eight episode deal will see The Big Bang Theory return for its eleventh season this fall and a twelfth season in 2018/19. Whether The Big Bang Theory‘s twelfth year will be its last has not been decided yet.
The Big Bang Theory‘s renewal follows the recent series order for a The Big Bang Theory spin-off, Young Sheldon, which will focus on a nine-year-old Sheldon growing up in Texas.
Young Sheldon will follow the nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies), living with this family in Texas and going to high school. Zoe Perry, the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf who plays Sheldon’s mother Mary on The Big Bang Theory, will be playing Sheldon’s mother in the spin-off series. The show will also star Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan.
Young Sheldon will be a half-hour series but, unlike the multi-camera The Big Bang Theory, the show will be a single-camera comedy. Jim Parsons will narrate the show as Adult Sheldon. Elf and Iron Man director Jon Favreau will direct the pilot episode.
The single-camera comedy is being produced by TBBT co-creator Chuck Lorre and showrunner Steven Molaro. Jim Parsons will be providing narration as the adult Sheldon.
From Culturedemandsgeeks, Congrats to the cast and crew of The Big Bang Theory, which premiered almost a decade ago in September 2007 and has been TV’s No. 1 comedy for the past five years in a row.
