Get A First Look At Orlando Jones As Mr. Nancy In Starz’s American Gods
With the American Gods TV series almost here, we have a new image of Orlando Jones as the spider God Anansi — a.k.a. Mr Nancy — has been revealed. What’s more, Jones has talked about a possible spin-off adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jones talks about his background on the character and how he already knew about Anansi ever since he was a kid. He says:
“Anansi is one of those characters that survived the Middle Passage, began in western Africa, and made his way here and really proliferated throughout the southern United States. The Spider God, the Trickster God was part of stories that my great-grandfather would tell me when I used to sneak him cigarettes.”
Gaiman had actually written a spin-off book to American Gods, and Jones revealed that the show creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green were already thinking about the spin-off during production.
Jones is all up for committing for the show as well, saying: “If there is a spin-off of any kind, I’d love to do it. I’ve been fortunate that this is one of the most exciting and incredible experiences I’ve been able to do as an actor, and I’ll continue for as long as I possibly can.”
SMALL PLOT DETAILS: A recently released ex-convict named Shadow meets a mysterious man who calls himself “Wednesday” and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow’s life and past. Created for TV by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. Starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane and Emily Browning.
Culturedemandsgeeks, what do you think of the trailers buzzing around the web at the moment in time, interested in the show? Think the show will do credit to the book? Let’s hope American Gods will eventually succeed well enough to merit the Anansi Boys spin-off when it premieres April 20 on Starz.
