Agents of SHIELD Season 4 Kicks off Third Story Arc in Spring

Back with the excellent Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Showrunner Jed Whedon revealed that a brand new story arc will kick off for Agents of SHIELD in the spring. “This year there will be three [story arcs],” Whedon said. The show is currently in the middle of the second story arc, so the third will be staring up after that.

The current arc will wrap up before the show takes a break in spring and then the show will start up with a new arc when it returns. “We’ll be off for a while and there’ll be a third part,” Whedon confimed.

Whedon discussed the current arc of Agents of SHIELD, known as the “Life Model Decoy” arc. “It’s something we wanted to do for a long time,” he said. “We always have to steer away from stuff that’s coming up in the movies and there was going to be some robots in some of those big movies, so we steered away from it initially but we always had it in our minds. We felt that we had a lot of good Inhumans stuff to do last year so it seemed like the right time.”

Whedon also discussed Ghost Rider who has been a focus this season. He was happy with how the show transitioned from the Ghost Rider arc to the current arc. “When we started talking about Ghost Rider, we realized that with the Darkhold there was a way to get all of these things in one sort of soup, and so that’s sort of how it happened this year,” he said.

Agents of SHIELD will return Tuesday, January 10 at 10 pm Eastern/Pacific Time on ABC.

Whedon is keeping shoosh! on what the third arc will be about, so fans will just have to anticipate it. Are you looking forward to it? Or do you think there have been too many arcs this season?
